Society for American Baseball Exploration to have Black baseball history program

Williamsport, Dad. — The James V. Earthy colored Library will be the setting for the following Williamsport section meeting of the General public for American Baseball Exploration. This gathering’s presentation will zero in on the Negro Leagues and Significant League Baseball. The presentation will be available to the general population, with no registration expected to attend.

The presentation will occur on Saturday, Feb. 4 at 11 a.m. in the Lowry Room on the third floor of the Welch Youngsters’ Wing.

The program, “The Negro Leagues and Significant League Baseball,” will be introduced by Jack Houston, Lou Hunsinger, Marc Pompeo, and Ted Knorr. The moderators will zero in on the formative years and baseball history of Dark baseball and the Negro Leagues; Williamsport’s George Stovey’s place in late nineteenth century baseball history; Significant League Baseball invites Negro Leagues Statistics: 1920-1948; the “exemplary” 1936 East-West Top pick Game in Comiskey Park in Chicago; Cooperstown Hall of Acclaim Negro League Players; April 27, 1926, the main professional game at Bowman Field; and the Williamsport Grays and the Negro League Harrisburg Monsters.
